In response to declining customer branch usage, Barclays is opening semi-permanent banking pods in locations with high foot traffic, such as shopping centres and retail parks.
In accordance with this model, the bank collaborates with neighborhood associations and groups to set up a presence and provide in-person banking support in locations like town halls and libraries. Staff from Barclays Local offer in-person support, as well as community events to raise awareness of fraud and scams and free digital skills workshops.
The format currently gives people a way to stay in locations where there isn’t enough demand to sustain a traditional branch. The model will now be expanded and made available in regions where Barclays is not yet present.
