Eastern Bank is releasing what it says is the first biometric metal card for high-value customers in the world. The card, provided by Idex Biometrics, was fully certified by Mastercard in August and is scheduled to go on sale in 2024.

The card has an antenna on the card inlay, the IDEX card operating system, a Linxens EMV2 module with Infineon’s SLC38B secure element, and an Idex biometric sensor. To complete tap-and-pay transactions at the register, customers only need to place their thumb on the sensor.

Managing director and CEO of Dhaka-based EBL, Ali Reza Iftekhar, says: “The Idex Biometrics solution offers a first-class payment experience.”
