Fintechs participate in bidding war for PayU

The Dutch investment firm Prosus, the owner of the European payments company PayU, apparently chose to put the company up for sale, sparking a bidding battle.

Two fintech companies have reportedly made offers thus far: Israeli unicorn Rapyd and Canadian payments company Nuvei, according to Israeli tabloid Calcalist.

The most recent acquisition by Rapyd was the purchase of the Icelandic payments startup Valitor in 2021. The announcement of a potential sale came the same week that PayU released its financial year-end results.
